Once more you are on target Christine..You are correct that the number of teachers in ones family is irrelevant to the issue of our current "shortage" of teachers..except to prove that to stay in this profession that one must love to teach.. My memory of the last subsidized teachers was back in the 60's and 70's. Anyone who majored in any of the teaching professions only had to teach 4 years and their 4 year College Tuition was paid in Mass. and Ct. maybe all of New England..what happened?? Many of Those who took this route ended up teaching 4 years and moving on into better Corporate Positions. The dedicated continue to teach... Our School system has been so tragically trashed by the NEA' ( I will not belabor the issue here) that the average teaching prospect is looking elsewhere and I cannot blame them. I taught Jurisprudence until there was none left. So I do understand. If "The Powers That Be" would stop screwing up our Education Systems there would be no need for Foreign imports to fill the "empty holes" :-( There will always be a need for the three R's and they just don't get it. I watched the teachers of the 60's try to screw up my children's Education and I would have no part of it.. I raised hell' and taught mine the basics, They are awfully glad that I did. Whose harebrained Idea it was to build those 500 pupil Jr. High Schools with one Principal and a Harem of Guidance Counselors?? They should be lynched..gimme the Rope') Got any Better Ideas????????
