wider markets? -- freer exchange? Ok -- probably, but that doesn't make the economy any more "internet-based" than it was railroad or auto or phone based. Why do people bank, have insurance, buy financial products? -- so they can participate in the economy of real goods and services -- obtain those things which they perceive increase their individual welfare.

Although Dale was unwilling to answer the question -- it doesn't take a genius to figure out that the growth in the service economy is limited by the ability of the economy to produce real goods. Perhaps the internet will result in a freer exchange more efficient economy -- I am not convinced yet -- but if it does -- it is not going to be some huge leap -- but just a continuation of a process of globalization and freer exchange which predated all the hoopla over the internet.

Much more important are the regulations of the various countries which alternately allow or discourage free and fair exchange.
