I lived in Australia for a while in recent times. Their continent is as big as ours, but they only have as many people as L.A. or NYC (about 20 million). They have a great sense of expansiveness, and a real feel for land and nature. They're nice people, too. But they're very laid back, not particularly ambitious. Healthcare and pensions and the avaiability of cheap land make life pretty easy there.
