just a quick comment on debt...from a general standpoint debt is not a good thing..."cash is king" carries its weight.

Allocation of portfolio, age, risk tolerance, rate tradeoffs (rent, mortgage, cd, bond)...all impact decisions...the cost of renting a 3brm/2 ba home in Seattle...Missippi?...how about paying for a new roof, maintenance issues, is there an argument to rent vs purchase when all costs are considered?

As far as a trick from the acct's perspective, again depends on allocation of portfolio, age, lifestyle,...

My preference would to pay Uncle Sam (not!) his due and be debt free...living within one's means, well within, oh so important!
