I think this shows how important Yahoo! really is...

news.excite.com

WebSideStory, a San Diego Internet research firm, said last week Yahoo now accounts for close to 56 percent of all search engine referrals.

According to the WebSideStory data, Yahoo's nearest competitor among Internet search engines was CMGI Inc.'s (CMGI.O) Alta Vista, which handled 11.18 percent of all online search queries. ExciteAtHome Corp. ATHM.O) came in third, with its excite.com portal handling 9.66 percent of Internet search traffic.

it seems that pooling is going to put a lot of pressure on many cos to make their moves this year. virtually every co i have is considering the effect of pooling in one direction or the other.

the pressure to consolidate is something we are going to have to factor in to the whole market. both the large quantity of it this year and the lack of it that will probably go on in 01.
