I believe most companies are still producing heads with MR technology. The GMR heads allow greater arial density and therefore fewer components and less cost for the same capacity. IMO strategies will use MR technology on programs that are already set up and producing until the GMR programs can produce enough units to meet market demand at a lower cost. The long changeover period is one reason why it will take so long for companies to be profitable again.
