NEW YORK (AP) - Sean "Puffy" Combs and Jennifer Lopez were arrested and charged today with criminal possession of a weapon after a gun was allegedly found in their vehicle as they left a nightclub where three people were shot and wounded.

Police were investigating eyewitness accounts alleging that Combs fired a gun in the Time Square-area club following a dispute early today, said a police source, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The gun found in the vehicle was reported stolen from Georgia, according to a second police source, who also insisted on anonymity.

In addition to possession of a weapon, Combs and Lopez were charged with criminal possession of stolen property, Police Commissioner Howard Safir said at a news conference.

Another person was arrested at the club on a gun charge.

Combs, the millionaire rapper and record producer, and Lopez, actress and singer known for such films as "Out of Sight," were stopped in a sport utility vehicle with two other people around 2:30 a.m., about 10 minutes after the shooting at Club NY, a trendy dance club, said Officer John Giammarino.

The couple, who have been dating, were in the back seat of a Lincoln Navigator with a driver and a bodyguard in the front, said the source who reported the eyewitness accounts.

The driver, Wardel Fenderson, and bodyguard Anthony Jones, also were charged with criminal possession of a weapon and stolen property. Jones was also charged with criminal possession of marijuana and a controlled substance.

None of the four had a license for the gun, Giammarino said. The weapon was described as a 9 mm.

Officers stopped the Navigator because it was leaving the scene of the shooting, Giammarino said. The vehicle ran at least one red light before finally stopping, he said.

Jamal Barrow, 19, a little-known rapper who uses the name Shine, was arrested at the club, at 43rd Street and Eighth Avenue, and was charged with criminal possession of a 9 mm gun. Police would not say whether they thought he had a role in the shooting.

The motive for the shooting was unknown, police said.

Two men and a woman suffered minor injuries in the shooting. The woman was shot in the face and was in stable condition at St. Clare's Hospital. One man was in stable condition at the same hospital with a shoulder injury. The second man refused treatment for a shoulder injury.

Records show that the Navigator belongs to Combs' recording company, Bad Boy Records. Calls to the company were not returned.

Combs was arrested in April for allegedly beating record executive Steven Stoute, who suffered a broken arm, a broken jaw and head cuts. Stoute said the rapper was one of three assailants. Originally charged with assault, Combs pleaded guilty to a lesser charge, harassment, and was ordered to undergo counseling.

Combs, 30, has produced songs for Mariah Carey and Madonna. Last year, he won two Grammys and earned an estimated $53.5 million, ranking 15th on Forbes magazine's list of highest-paid entertainers.

The 29-year-old Lopez, once a dancer on the TV show "In Living Color," has appeared in films including "Selena," in which she played the title role as the doomed singer; "Money Train"; and "Anaconda." She released her debut album, "On the 6," in June.
