I learned something last week on CNBC about the effect of painting-the-tape (at anytime) ... I used to think that it was just a set-up for what shows up in the newspaper/web stock price ..... NO .... the effect goes much deeper .... when a much out of line paint-the-tape which is a daily high or low ... it effects the 50-day & 200-day moving averages which has much more impact over longer times ... the NYSE is supposed to quickly see these "trades" and erase them but because of increased volumes and ECNs and xxxx ... the NYSE oversight group has been missing many of these "trades" and they are never erased. Interesting ? Michael
