Woa! <G>

This sucka is fast!! I just got my Maxtor 7200RPM 27GB Diamond Max Plus.

The sticker on the box says it will boot Win98 a lot faster than a 5400 RPM drive. I cloned my boot drive to the new disk and it actually seemed to boot slower -- definitely no improvement. But the first program I opened almost blinked onto the screen. Then I ran Windows defragmenter and you can really see the speed improvement there. It's like apples and oranges. Seems like better than twice as fast. Now I wonder how fast a scsi would be...

BTW, I was about to order it from buy.com when I thought I'd give my local Staples a call. buy.com was $206 + $7 shipping, Staples was $200 + $16 NYS tax so about even but naturally I didn't want to wait.

Staples also has Norton SystemWorks for $50 with a $20 rebate if you are upgrading.
