Ted,

Dan, he said revenue and technology which I thought meant the stuff patented.......but maybe he meant it in a very general sense. Comments, Goutama?

By "technology" I meant the ideas behind the RAMBUS technology. As Dan indicated in his post, they can circumvent many RAMBUS patents with new protocols, slightly different architecture, pincount, signals etc. Also, as Petz indicated, if a patented feature is absolutely necessary, they can exercise their combined power for lower licensing fees. In the digital technology - at the logic level, a given idea or function can be usually implemented in many different ways. It's only when something (ex: x86 instructions set) becomes a run away standard, then the standard becomes the ultimate way of doing things no matter how many other better ways are out there - making the patents and copyrights pertained to that standard more potent.

regards,
Goutama
