Hi, Rarebird, I'm feeling reflective this AM, so I think it only "fair" that I respond to your post<g> I had to smile thinking about your assertion that nothing in the rule book sez life has to be fair. I remember as a youngun' learning that life is NOT fair. Seems my dad had made a "ruling" not in my favor about some life and death matter, and that being the painful lesson I learned as the result...makes me smile now...sort of, but shore's hell DIDN'T then!!! I'll certainly not be the first nor the last to admit that POG's behavior since September 1999 rally that the F/R negotiated (manipulated<g>) into back burner status has been a major surprise to me. Greenspan's arm-twisting behind the back "manipulation" was global beyond anything I thought he could pull off. I should NOT have been surprised as the LTCM burial at sea SHOULD have been my first clue, but how in the HELL he has found the skeletons in the closets of his compatriots overseas, especially in the LBMA is beyond my comprehension. I do knowfor a fact Alan did a great deal of "timely" shall we call it personal phone call lobbying to ordinary citizens with extraordinary resources who were heavily buying gold personally. His jawboning help prick the building gold disappearance tide before even April 99 had rolled past. So, the bully pulpiteer is alive and well. Said pulpit is a good format for the old goat, who probably has his stash someplace besides under Andrea Mitchell's Queen Size, Silk encased pillow. I don't share Ken Bene's belief that gold will be dumped just because it won't be useful as money in the near future. Gold WILL ALWAYS be money, there are those of us by the millions who treat it as such, all OVER the world. Korean Govt and others tried that "ask 'em to dumpt it" once, during 1999 if memory serves in fact... ...and all they got was a few million ounces, hardly enough to make a dent in what is stashed elsewhere in the world by those of us who are more practical than "patriotic." So fresh lessons in what happens when you are patriotic with your personal gold stash lessons are in everyone's mind...especially thos who "already gave at the office" as some pundits like to intone. Besides, not only have those two nations already puked up their gold, their citizens did NOT make it into the promised land of better lifestyle, did NOT witness that it made any difference in their local headlines, scandals, balance of payments, trade deficit narrowings or any of the other stupid things promised by the first politician who forked over his gold national service medal for combat or whatever that hollow-sounding symbolic gesture truly was, and now that hoarded stash has been squandered t'boot and must be re-acquired at mucho higher prices. PS: If you truly expect me to believe that old dufur medal wasn't quietly slipped into a museum somewhere instead of melted into a lump, well, I guess that would take more manipulation than even AG is capable of demonstrating. Me? I've got my BIOS fixed, my heart and home as ready as it is going to be and am mulling over how to stash more fuel for the inevitable rally I foresee in gasoline prices. We'll soon see if ole Alan has a plan "B-1" for the nation's empty and rumbling belly seeking refined gasoline fare. BTW...got a note in my bank statement ystdy that my bank will be closing at noon 12/31 so that all money can be hand entered and statements run before the clock strikes midnight. Did you get said "warning" in yours? Funny how that flies in the face of "gee, we're ready, there will be no banking glitches" bullshit. AG seems to have repealed every other law of fiscal physics, including supply and demand...it is only worth noting wryily that he has probably broken the link between inflation and gasoline prices paid at the pump S&D physics as well. We'll soon see, eh? Me? Yeah, I'll be watching CNN and not particularly on the "net"...it doesn't feel safe and I haven't spent any of my time worrying about how to prevent virulent viruses. Hope you are cozy upstate and your satellite dish still brings in 200 channels of mostly garbage. Galaxy 8 satellite dish going out because of failed Y2K testing is still a fact in my life I just can't forget. Money is safe and awaiting re-entry into a mucho mucho lower market as the fallout bounces around in the bottomless and smelly bear pit I see ahead. Regards O/49r
