steve, As we approach the IA64 it recedes into the distance.
The IA64 release reminds me of the Athlon release in that the first sampled version was a lame part. It has also become clear that this was purposeful on the part of AMD....to release a lame stalking horse so Intel could stare down it's long beak at it with disdain...and duly failed to properly respond to the part until it came on stage as a knife thrust deep into the tender Intel underbelly....that safe high speed leading edge underbelly that was shown to be so vulnerable.
Will the IA64 be like that?....to emerge on time and in budget as an Athlon killer?(that the P-III was not)..or is the IA64 a permanently, fatally flawed design from hard beaten galley slaves?
