Ugh! I have not had a signifigant problem for several years. If I remember correctly I could still get the machine to operate in safe mode. I had previously made a diskette that allowed the machine to boot from the diskette and use the CDROM. After booting I changed to the CD and ran setup. Whenever it asked for a driver that it didn't find on the CDROM I pointed it to the hard disk (The directory was either CABS or WINDOWS_CABS) If I remember right I then had to patch up the sound card Direct-X from a game CD. (Can you reach the www.dell.com support page?)
