I also know that NASA and DoD don't like being hostage to any one manufacturer, they like to compete their contracts. I wonder how that will play out, if NASA and DoD decide to let out big SiC contracts?

i don't think that is confined to govt agencies. nobody likes single-sourcing. so far cree is "the" source.

i forgot to mention A1N...here is something a friend sent a few weeks ago.

Aluminum Nitride wafer growth. Eric Hunter developed the process and just assigned the patent rights to Cree. So Cree currently is the only company in the world who has demonstrated the ability to grow AlN wafers at a rate fast enough to be commercially viable. Cree has (AlN is the second best semiconductor known to man next to diamond.) Power utility switches developed from AlN I would imagine will far exceed even SiC switches capabilities.
