Thanks Jay and Edwin on the 'pachinko parlor' explanation.

I'm with you on the market calls Jay. I half expected to see some of the bids vanishing before the end of the year itself (with Louis Armstrong singing "like a gambler's lucky streak" etc) but I guess not. Harvesting laggards means the next crop planting will have to wait for a few more weeks I guess.

It's been a good year for all here I hope. I thank everyone on this thread for making it one of the saner corners on the net and for sharing their thoughts and insights. And good humor too! Prudence and even better years ahead to all. Till next week....

Happy New Year!

Late December in 1999 is a good time to be selling some of these high tech stocks. Most are vulnurable to a modest selloff in early January when profit taking taxes can be deferred for another year. Except for Softbank <G>. It is hard to be as optimistic as Michelda with his prediction of 150,000 yen (almost $1500 US)in January, but just looking at the charts seems to indicate that $1200 in January would not be too surprising. The US Market closed at $880 for Softbank. Will the Japanese Market follow and then Europe? We'll know in a couple of hours. BTW, anyone who needs to call the Schwab Global Desk on January 1st or 2nd will find people there.<G>. I may call just to wish them a Happy New Year.
