idler,

I was actually wondering if this fit into all the LG stories.

Either case is good. It is a long story but I remember China being not that happy about how GSM got launched. Basically, all the business went to foreign firms from infra to handsets. That was one of the objectives, if I remember correctly. China wants a piece of the action for CDMA, not just open the huge market for the benefit of foreign firms again.

If a Chinese manufacturer is applying for permission to manufacture CDMA phones, that would seem to imply that it has either negotiated a royalty agreement with Q or is close to doing so. That would be a major development. Also, is the "Asian manufacturer" referred to in the news story Kyocera?

It certainly sounded like it could be Kyocera.....either that or Samsung. Dr J. might have had another Ace up his sleeve when he was making the deal with Kyocera....Q's management has been amazing. I've been pretty sceptical of China but it sounds like this time is for real.

I bought the stock at 16 this AM on the news release. I figure a Chinese CDMA play is a good one with Unicom buildout right around the corner. The stock is at a reasonable 30PE.
