RE ARCA: You're much better off with ARCA as an option than not. It's not the perfect tool but I use it a lot.

RE margin: I think MB handles it about the same as Watley, i.e. you have to be careful about trading overnight holds. You can do it -- you just have to have enough buying power so that you're not using the proceeds from the overnight sell.

RE the other questions -- can't help you. I don't short that much and I never used Datek.

If you have the funds I would highly suggest that you open 2 accounts with Southwest Securities/Mbtrading. You can only have one account per SS no. but you can open up a joint account with a friend/spouse. A second account can be a serious advantage if/when you ever get a margin call. One strike and you are out is what I am told, per SEC rules for daytrading/high risk accounts. (If I am wrong or sketchy on this matter please notify me.)
