At work, I have a Dell Laptop. We have persistent freezes of this nature constantly. The only answer our IS group (let alone Dell) has come up with is a power down. Several times, that hasn't worked for me, as the power down button failed. After several attempts, it finally worked.
Obviously, this is not a purely CPQ problem.

I don't know if this will help. I had the same problem with a new Toshiba running WIN NT at work two years ago. Plus it would give me the "blue screen of death" with no warning. The screen would turn blue and very blank. When that happened, all my work was lost. (I learned to save spread sheets about every five entries.) A number of things were done to solve the problem. The most outstanding thing I remember is they doubled my RAM. After that, the freezes and BSOD almost disappeared. I also learned to unplug the darn thing when the reset switch or power button would not respond.

At the same time I will tell you my wife has a Toshiba that has been great. She runs the heck out of it. I have have two Compaqs that have been very good to me.

I discovered the best thing to do on any PC is jump on the warranty service right away. Don't ask how to fix it, ask them to fix it.
