Tax Question?????

This was just posted on Yahoo:

"The last tax selling day for longs is Friday. The last tax selling day for shorts was today. For longs it is the trade date. For shorts it is the settlement date. Since it takes 3 days to settle, the shorts would have had to sell today to be included in 1999 taxes. I know there will be some argument on this but check it out with a CPA. If shorts sell after today, it will be included in the year 2000 taxes." messages.yahoo.com

Will someone please confirm or deny the above statement? TIA
