My best guess is that things will be "good" in January. There is a lot of cash that will need to be put to work from all the pension/401k/IRA contributions. Although I think the "january" effect came early this year, it still should be an OK month for stocks. As such, it may be a good time to take some profits in a stable or rising market. But I really don't think the downturn that everyone expects will come in January, at least in the first half. The interest rate thing will be the catalyst for a pull back, IMHO.

Hope you have a great New Year, TSO! Best regards!

I suspect that there will probably be several thrusts early in the new year:

1. some profit taking by "traders" eager to do so early in the tax year.

2. inflow of funds stockpiled due to Y2K hysteria.

I'm amazed that so many otherwise rational people believe that these programs are bugfree other than Y2K bugs!!! A quadruple amputee would have enough digits to count the number of bugfree programs large enterprises have developed and are running in production.

3. Inflow of IRA, 401K, RRSP etc. funds.

4. Fund managers putting new cash to work.

5. Earnings season begins with dynamite results from the Xmas quarter.

6. Fear of the fed.

7. ...

i.e. business as usual.

Nothing's changed re the outlook for this sector. Most of the leaders will be selling for much higher prices a year from now than today. Finding a better place for one's money may not be so easy.

JMHO,
Ian.

Hi Duane. I've been out of DPMI for awhile, and I finally jumped back in today. I think we may see a little more tax loss selling for the next day or two, but the stock should have a healthy recovery in January. I don't expect much of a rally until the last hour of trading Friday, however.
