It was indeed a popular vote by the readers, in fact it apparently was write-in, because they discounted 100 votes for the "Next Karate Kid", mis-spelled. The Matrix was great, truly, if you like special effects. Did you see it in the theater? Awesome. Pretty good story line, too. A potboiler, but so are a lot of the great ones, like Casablanca. What's the line from Casablanca that goes something like, "The last time I saw you the Nazis were marching in. They wore grey, you wore white." The best movies are the ones that make us sit on the edge of our seats too enthralled to swallow our popcorn. IMO.
