It amazes me that no one talks about macromedia (MACR)
on this board.
Macromedia can deliver a lot more than you think.
The new new ATHM CD was made with macr.
Eventually ATHM & MACR or AOL will get together.
In my opinion.

My own personal feeling is very simple Excite was a mistake.

I can't say I disagree with you. But consider these facts:

In Q3, without Excite ad/e-tail revenue would have been 7-9 million instead of 75 million.

The excite narrow band portal has emerged as the single largest referrer of broadband subscribers.

With 40 million registered users, excites users can be targeted to migrate to broadband use.

In 2002 the excite BB portal is expected to generate 45% of the revenue.

Prior to the excite purchase the @media division had only 30 people, it now has 300. I like the synergy possible with 300 people working on something better than 30. Although I have to agree with Ahhaha, that it would be better to have the media division be a facilitator of content creation rather than the sole creator. However, you have to start somewhere - it will take time to develop along the Ahhaha/KB model.
