I get the feeling that likes and dislikes in movies are subject to tastes.

I've put together lists of my favorite movies- they are buried somewhere on Flick's picks- but I agree with most of yours. Not all of course, but most. Rohmer would be on my list. And something with Olivier- I liked him in Wuthering Heights- and the one set in Venice was very nice- with the two children. (A Little Romance). He has been good in Shakespeare as well. Persuasion is THE perfect adaption of a book- I would have to put that on. A Man for All Seasons. Maybe something with Taylor and Burton- to allow for their incredible sexual and cultural appeal. National Velvet would have to be on the list. Something with Shirley Temple. The original King Kong. Something with Mae West and WC Fields. Modern Times? Was that on the list? I don't recall but it would HAVE to be. And many of Chaplin's other movies deserve mention. Something from Woody Allen. Hannah and her Sisters- maybe? Fassbinder. Jarmusch. Hartley. Lots by Capra. Lots by Bergman. Several of the Shakespeare adaptions- some by Brannagh. I personally think the Thin Man movies are some of the best ever made. And the Hepburn/Tracy movies are fantastic. The Women with Norma Schearer is one fo my favoite movies of all time. So MANY really good movies- and so few made it to the list.

X, I hate "short-cuts" but go ahead and skip the first 900 years, if you like. M
