REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (CBS.MW) -- Online sporting goods
retailer Fogdog Sports said Tuesday it received 750 percent more
orders between Thanksgiving and Christmas in 1999 than it did
the year before, outpacing its nearest competitor 3-to-1 in terms
of November visitors.

The announcement comes one day after shares of the company --
which went public last month -- surged 5 3/8, or 57 percent, to
14 7/8 after JP Morgan initiated coverage of Fogdog (FOGD:
news, msgs) with a "buy" rating and set a 12-month price target
of $25 on the stock. See full story.

The latest sales figures "show that Fogdog is clearly leading the
way for online sporting goods shopping in the new millennium,"
said Fogdog chief executive Tim Harrington. The company said
new figures from Net research firm Media Metrix show Fogdog
attracted three times as many visitors in November as its closest
competitor, which it did not name.

Media Metrix also ranked Fogdog as the only sporting goods
e-tailer among 100 top shopping sites, the company said.
