PR Newswire - December 28, 1999 08:16

Remote Offices, Teleworkers and Home Users Receive Improved Internet and Network Connectivity

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Dec. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Rhythms NetConnections Inc. (Nasdaq: RTHM), a North American provider of digital subscriber line (DSL)-based, high-speed Internet access and networking solutions, today announced service availability in the Southern Connecticut area, which includes Stamford, Westport, Norwalk, Danbury, Fairfield, Bridgeport, Trumbull, Waterbury, New Haven, New London, and other towns and cities. This deployment augments Rhythms' coverage in the state, as service in Northern Connecticut, including Hartford, was announced in early November. Rhythms' solutions help remote offices, teleworkers and home users access information from the Internet and networks at industry-leading speeds combined with end-to-end support.

"Connecticut businesses and consumers now have a high-speed access alternative," said Steve Stringer, President and COO of Rhythms. "We are building a network that provides users with private and secure connections and supports speeds up to 125 times faster than conventional analog modems. Our services provide a dedicated, 'always on' connection that eliminates the need for dial-ups."

Rhythms' solutions are available to small, medium and large organizations as well as to homes. With its initial deployment, the company plans to offer services to at least 70 percent of the businesses and 60 percent of the homes in the Southern Connecticut area.

Rhythms provides managed Internet access and network services for businesses and consumers, based on "always on" DSL connections ranging in speeds from 144 kbps to 7.1 Mbps (approximately 125 times the speed of today's fastest dial-up modem). The company offers its services to businesses of all sizes and to home users through its channel partners, including competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs), interexchange carriers (IXCs), Internet service providers (ISPs), network integrators, and value-added resellers (VARs).

Rhythms plans to provide service in 70 markets, covering more than 100 metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) by the end of 2000. The Southern Connecticut area is the 37th market to receive Rhythms' solutions. The 37 markets cover 69 MSAs. Pricing for Rhythms' solutions varies according to network speeds and the type of services customers select.
