* warning: do not read if you have not seen "the piano" * I read that the piano's original ending had the Holly Hunter character drowning when the piano was tossed overboard (her foot was entangled in a rope connected to the piano, as I recall). They previewed the film and of course Hollywood will not support a film with an unhappy ending - therefore they changed the ending to the lightweight "she escapes" theme... this ruined the film, imo. It would have been much better and more focused had they left it alone.
