Skeeter, when the Japanese stock market crashed it didn't result in the subsequent economic malaise. According to economists studying the situation the ultimate Japanese economic downturn was unconnected to the market crash.

What worries me most is the insanity of the prices of certain tech stocks (CSCO and QCOM are prime examples) and almost the entire internet sector. Growth in consumer spending is outpacing growth in personal income, and I suspect that a lot of this is due to a combination of the "wealth effect" and low unemployment.

I am also disturbed by the aggressive accounting of some firms, allowing them to utilize pooling of interests and then selling off under-valued acquired assets for phony profits, and the lack of critical thinking on the part of sell-side analysts in reviewing the operating results of many companies by a lack of analysis of cash flow statements.
