>>NMDG Names Marconi and Pirelli Suppliers for $5 Billion
Global Network
12/28/99 By Erik Kreifeldt

Starting with a $1.2 billion initial contract for a European network, New
Millennium Development Group Inc. (NMDG, West Palm Beach, FL)
has named Marconi plc (London) and Pirelli Cable Systems (Milan) as
the principal suppliers to design and build its $5 billion global
telecommunications network. "We're mostly building the network from
scratch," reports NMDG chairman Daniel Imperato.

The supply contracts are going though final negotiations, Imperato
says. NMDG is buying primarily turnkey undersea systems?cable,
backhaul, dense wavelength division multiplexing systems (DWDM),
switching equipment, synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) gear, and
ships. Pirelli will partner with KDD Submarine Cable Systems (Tokyo)
to supply NMDG's network.

Imperato likens the strategy of NMDG to that of Global Crossing
(Hamilton, Bermuda), which got its start in becoming a global carrier by
developing undersea cable systems. "We feel that there's room in the
marketplace to compete," Imperato says.

NMDG will begin presenting its differentiation from a crowding field of
global fiber optic network developers in the next three weeks or so,
Imperato says, adding that he's not at liberty to discuss the matter
now. He does, however, forecast strategic partnerships between NMDG
and both carriers and suppliers, including capacity purchase
agreements.<<

A little perspective about the short shares; the number of shares presently short is less than 10% higher than in October's report. However, the October number may have been based on a much smaller float than we have now. The Frontier merger at the end of September expanded the float in multiples so the short shares don't look too bad - and you have to expect a few more short shares with increasing price. I wouldn't short this one, though.

Also, if I remember correctly, the insiders' self-imposed share lock-up ends April 1, 2000.
