Don't apologize. That's a great pun. :)

<<Do you mean to suggest that those technologies compete with Zip?>>

No! However, on the other hand, they are the dominant leader in what they do and can hardly breakeven, what does that tell you?

Nokia, before being the dominant leader in the hand set business and wirless infastructre, use to sell tv's, tires and rubber boots. In the 80's they went through a major transformation and look at where they are today.

Now having said that I'm not implying that IOM can replicate that performance. They couldn't pull it off with a dominant position in their sector, they couldn't do it entering a new segment. What I'm implying is that in order for IOM to exist 5, maybe 10 years from now, they must change and become more than just personal storage company.

Do you think that Nokia today would have a $200B market cap selling rubber tires and boots?

>>I do agree that Iomega needs to come up with new products to drive growth, but I think that they should be storage products. Storage is what the company does. Computer users still need storage. <<<

I agree. The removable storage niche is much-needed and still potentially very profitable. Iomega needs to market the concept a lot better, though. And by this I don't mean that dull as dishwater stuff about storing, protecting, backing up, archiving and all that, true though it may be.

Iomega needs to first and foremost convince the consumer that Zip and Clik are cool, fun, and hip to own and use... And um, oh yes, ESSENTIAL to store, safeguard and exchange data in the 00's.
