Interesting comment and I agree. Looking at the point & figure chart the formation that appears to be playing out is that of a "shakeout". This formation, as you suggest, 'shakes out' the weak holders of the stock.

As of todays close, it would take a move back to 50 to complete the shakeout (subject to change if we move lower from here).
