That was a thoughtful comment, Ron. We all are concerned. But Japan is not the only one whose GDP could soon be lagging. Did you know, for instance, that the US GDP was up 4.6% in 1999 of which Internet commerce accounted for 1.1%. So far so good. But in 2002, analysts are expecting US GDP growth to hit 5% - but of this, internet commerce will account for 4.4%. In other words conventional GDP is slowing down.

The drama this year in Japan is that this dichotomy has been clearly recognized (as it has been in the US too) and, IMHO, Japan will be able to metabolize their rust belt as efficiently as the US has so far done - especially as now they have a leader to emulate.
