GAUGIE UPDATE: I just talked to him. He sounded very tired indeed, and is having a lot of pain, but is basically okay. He was a little worried about his invitation for all to call him-- he hopes people won't stay on too long if they do call; and really it's clear that he's found it a bit hard.... I think he'll be okay. He's not looking forward to the "rejection" stage -- they've told him that soon he'll start running a fever and will feel awful, but that it will pass after two or three weeks. This is harder, much, than the last surgery. He walked today. It hurt very much, but it has to be done.
