So NEXGEN brought little to the table...at great expense too. Still would AMD have been better off without the K6?

I wouldn't say that. AMD would be out of business without the K6. My complaint about Nexgen is that the K6 was too complex, at the expense of clock speed. In contrast, K7 was architected from day one to run at high MHz. I'm hoping that the Sunnyvale team can get away from their roots and do the right thing with K8.
