Apple now uses software decode!!!!!! I just read a review of the new powermac G4's in my Feb 2000 Macworld. The G4 is a sweet, screamin' machine. (Recall the blue G3's had a Ziva chip as a daughter card attached to an ATI Rage card as the hardware decoder). The G4 with DVD ROM has now moved to software decode, AND IT DOESN'T WORK!!!!!!!!! The video and audio don't match, and it looks like a foreign movie that was dubbed! The same holds true for the iMac DV. They tested a powerbook G3 with hardware decode (which I happen to own one, and can testify that it really does work), and the powerbook G3 DVD worked fine. HOW CAN APPLE BE SO FARKING STUPID!!!!!!!! They build a sweet BMW, and drop a Yugo engine in it to save a few bucks!!! What junk!!! I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER MAC UNTIL APPLE ENDS THE INSANITY AND PUTS HARDWARE DECODE BACK INTO THEIR SWEET SWEET MACHINES!!!!!!!
