Mani, <AMD Viper Southbridge used in Motorola Dual-G4 board>

Doh! Thanks to Mark Reyes for pointing out the blindingly obvious to me. That dual G4 motherboard article has more than one page. Little arrow pointing right on the bottom-right of the screen. Aargh. Anyway, thanks to him for noting that the article mentions that the "Viper" south bridge is not a coincidence. Somehow, this dual G4 board actually uses the AMD756 Viper southbridge in order to maintain compatibility with several PC peripherals.
I should note on the side that this Silicon Fruit board will sample in Q1 and will find its way into ... oh, this is just perfect! Okay, here it is: The platform for the Motorola/Apple SMP cpu which contains (partially) an AMD chipset is called ... the Metanium. (to anybody who doesn't note why this is particularly amusing, you can crawl back under your rock now<g>)

And here I was thinking that SMP G4 platforms were some rare holy grail for the PPC folk. I got slapped around a bit by the festive Nick De Rico, who sent me this URL to what he says is a quad G3 board (or system?) which can at any time be upgraded to a quad G4. Of course, we seem to be having a little pre-y2k problem as I am unable to access that URL right now -- maybe it'll clear up soon. :)
