The Chaco mine area itself is a large area of approximately 110,000 sq. feet in size. It has been mined in the past by crude of ground sluicing and hydraulic methods.(Spooning) This has left a large pit more than 350 feet deep. The tailings which were allowed to flow downward in the valley, have stacked to form a large alluvial fan-like deposit.

The volume of the Chaco site conglomerates is estimated to be 1,425,926 cu. yards.
