Technikvorstand Hagen Hultzsch sagte, nach umfangreichen Tests habe die Telekom die Sicherheit, dass sowohl national wie international keine Probleme bei der Netzinfrastruktur zu erwarten seien. Trotzdem richte die Telekom in Bonn derzeit ein Notfallzentrum ein, das mit 30 bis 50 Personen besetzt werden solle. Bundesweit wrden in der Silvesternacht mehr als 7600 Mitarbeiter einsatz- oder rufbereit sein. Seit Beginn der Vorbereitungen 1996 habe das Unternehmen rund 300 Millionen Mark fr die Datumsumstellung ausgegeben. In der kommenden Silvesternacht drften die Telekommunikationsnetze wie zum Jahreswechsel blich berlastet sein, aber voll funktionsf„hig, sagte Werner Mayer vom Nrnberger Telekom-Testzentrum. Alle Vermittlungssysteme h„tten ein dreistufiges Testverfahren durchlaufen, bei denen auch die Verbindungen mit internationalen Netzen wie nach Japan oder den USA geprft werde. Hultzsch betonte, der Telefonbetrieb in Deutschland k”nne auch dann aufrechterhalten werden, falls es in der Silvesternacht zu regionalen Stromausf„llen komme. The new year is poised to begin sweeping over the globe (~less than two minutes as i'm about to post) and all is quiet in my neighborhood (Ypsilanti, MI). I got some more cash from the ATM with no trouble, checked out the store and things may have been a bit busier than usual, but no more than if people were worried about the weather. They may have been low on bottled water, but who would waste their money stocking up on water purchased in a sotre is beyond me. The only element of any concern to me right now (and that's only slight concern) is that gasoline prices have risen about 10 cents in the past week or so (if I'm remembering correctly). Not a run, but definitely a jump. Excellently put Cruiser (post 117). If I had your knowledge and experience, I suspect I would give a bit more emphasis to the fact that some stuff will fail because of y2k, and it might even cause some noticeable problems. That's just a matter of style thought, and it takes all kinds. If I had to "bet" on who's predictions about y2k are going to be closest to the mark, I think my money would be on yours.
