<<BIG COSTS FOR PARTY, Y2K PREPARATIONS

Mexico appears to have spared no expense in the New Year's Eve celebrations, or in making sure all critical systems will make a smooth transition to 2000.

The Zocalo extravaganza will cost 29 million pesos, about $3 million. The Mexican government has spent 60 million pesos, or about $6.3 million, on converting computer systems so they can handle the transition to 2000.>>

Ho! Ho! They are spending almost as much on tequila as they did fixing the computers. $6.3M does not even get a decent consultant's report. There are county gov'ts that have spent more than that in the US.

Is this REALLY supposed to make the good citizens of Mexico feel BETTER?
