Frostman:
When VVUS was at 40, the reason was that they had the market cornered on ED with their MUSE product. Then Viagria came along and the stock was clobbered as the average person suffering from ED would rather take a pill than insert a device.

Since then, there has been alot of back and forth about the CEO of VVUS continually selling shares of his stock, management of the company, etc. They do have new products in the pipeline including one that is a cream that is suposed to work on women. If this happens, the stock could take off.

Study this company very carefully before you invest. Not much good has happened lately and they have a way of screwing things up all the time.

Good luck.

Chip

Steve, Chip hit the high points in answering your question. Yes, Vivus did reach $40 plus as it came to market, but it also split at $50 in the summer of 97, and has been under $2.00 since. What a ride.

I can add that the the impact of Viagra was profound, well beyond the estimates of individual investors, Vivus management, and Wallstreet. Competitive forces hurt this stock deeply to date, and competitive forces remain a primary concern of mine.

For a good snap-shot of Vivus history, spot check this thread and look at the other SI Vivus thread, "Vivus, why the slide". Currently, the Raging Bull Vivus thread is reasonably sane and always active.

This stock, in my opinion, remains highly speculative and any investor should do his own research.

Good luck to you, and happy New Year!
