Happy newsyear: Semiconductor Global Sales $13.4 Billion In October (If this is the beginin of 2000 whats the end of it; Bluetooth products are comming in markets with high volume on year 2001!!! :-) 30.12.1999 Worldwide Semiconductor Global Sales Top $13.4 Billion in October - Global Semiconductor sales reach ‘historic high' Worldwide sales of semiconductors surged to $13.4 billion in October, the highest global sales number in the history of the semiconductor industry breaking the $13.19 billion mark set in November of 1995, the Semiconductor Industry Association has reported. "Our record sales in October are a continuation of the strong growth pattern that commenced in mid-1998," said George Scalise, SIA President. On October 27th, the SIA released its 1999-2002 industry forecast stating that the worldwide semiconductor industry will grow 14.7% with sales topping $144 billion this year. With October's global sales numbers, year-to-date numbers have out paced our forecast at 15.6%. The forecast calls for the industry to grow 21% with sales of $174 billion in 2000, with continued growth of 20% in 2001 and $209 billion in sales. In 2002, the industry should show 12% growth with sales reaching a record high of $234 billion. Growth is being driven by the surge of wired and wireless information appliances, as well as Internet infrastructure products. Cellular phones will continue to be one of the major industry growth drivers. The total market year-to-year growth is 23.3% compared to October, 1998. In the Japan and Asia markets, the industry grew at 37.7% and 35.6%, respectively from last year. The Americas market was up 15.5% from last year, and Europe's sales grew at 10.4%. The SIA's Global Sales Report (GSR) is a three month moving average of sales activity. The GSR is tabulated by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) organization, which represent some 70 companies.
