Courtesy of AthlonK75... AMD has already covered its Embedded CPU's base.amd.com SUNNYVALE, CA--DECEMBER 6, 1999--AMD today announced the immediate availability of four new, higher performance versions of its AMD-K6©-2E embedded processor family at speeds up to 350 MHz. The new additions include: the 350 MHz and 333 MHz standard power processors, and the 333 MHz and 300 MHz low-power processors. The AMD-K6-2E embedded processors are designed to offer compelling yet cost-effective performance for embedded applications. "These new processors give embedded systems developers a tremendous amount of performance for a very reasonable price, while taking advantage of x86 software compatibility, chipsets, board designs, and development tools to help enable a quick time to market," said Jerry Vogel, Vice President and General Manager, Embedded Processor Division. "By broadening the range of embedded processor offerings for its customers, AMD reaffirms its commitment to provide long-term support for its AMD-K6 processor-based products." "Design engineers now have a wealth of high-performance AMD-K6-2E embedded processors to choose from, whether in standard or low-power consumption versions. The AMD-K6-2E processors support the 100MHz Super7? and Socket 7 platform-compatible infrastructure," said Tim Wright, Director of Marketing of AMD's Embedded Processor Division. "These processors are ideally suited for today's high performance embedded applications, including point-of-sale terminals, printer controllers, public and private communications infrastructure, industrial automation, information appliances, and Microsoft© Windows©-based single board computers and embedded PCs." About the AMD-K6©-2E Processor The AMD-K6-2E processor is a functionally compatible embedded version of AMD's sixth-generation, Microsoft Windows software-compatible AMD-K6©-2 processor, which is used in many top-selling desktop and notebook PCs. The low-power version of the AMD-K6-2E processor runs at a reduced core voltage of 1.9V to provide a maximum power consumption of less than 10 watts and extended temperature rating of 85§C, while the standard power version is the embedded equivalent to the popular desktop AMD-K6-2 processor with a standard 2.2V core voltage and temperature rating. On both versions, the I/O voltage operates at the industry-standard 3.3V level. Designed to run both 16-bit and 32-bit software, the AMD-K6-2E processor delivers high-performance x86 instruction set processing and is compatible with the Microsoft Windows CE, Windows 98, Windows NT© and Windows NTE operating systems, as well as applications that run on them, including the latest software optimized for 3DNow!? and MMX? technologies. The AMD-K6-2E processor also is supported by other leading PC and x86 compatible operating systems, including numerous Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) commonly used in embedded applications, such as pSOS, QNX, RTXC and VxWorks. The 9.3-million-transistor AMD-K6-2E processor is manufactured on AMD's 0.25-micron, five-layer-metal process technology using local interconnect and shallow-trench isolation at AMD's Fab 25 wafer fabrication facility in Austin, Texas. The AMD-K6-2E processor is packaged in a Socket 7 and Super7 platform-compatible, 321-pin ceramic pin grid array (CPGA) package using C4 flip-chip interconnection technology. Pricing and Availability The AMD-K6-2E processor is immediately available in both standard and low-power versions. The standard power 350 MHz AMD-K6-2E/350AFR processor is priced at $61, and the 333 MHz AMD-K6-2E/333AFR processor is priced at $59, each in 1,000-unit quantities through AMD authorized distributors. The low-power 333 MHz AMD-K6-2E/333AMZ processor is priced at $69, and the 300 MHz AMD-K6-2E-300AMZ processor is priced at $66, each in 1,000-unit quantities, through AMD authorized distributors.
