Thank you for your considered and thoughtful posting. We do not always agree, but here we are in 100% agreement. It is difficult to learn very much or have something to consider and reflect upon if we shut off the voices that are not in agreement with our own.

On the stock threads there are some posters who are truly inane and not contributing to the general store of knowledge. I am grateful for the ignore function where they are concerned--when I am on the "new" SI, that is. However, I do not use it for any poster here. I may be tempted to shake various people at various times, but I find it useful to try to understand how people think and why they think what they do.

I agree with your post. I like to try to keep track of what's going on, usually from a distance, unless it's something that interests me. Now that SI has the 10-messages-at-a-time function it's pretty easy to just skim the ones that are annoying. On the other hand, the "Ignore" button comes in handy when you're angry. I just haven't been angry lately.
