Boffing is a verb as someone has stated.
Boffo is an adjective OR an exclamation meaning good, superior, excellent or Right On!

Boffo was coined by the motion picture trade paper Variety. It means big box office. Became popular slang around thirty years ago. As YYB pointed out, boffo is an adjective meaning superior, excellent. Especially big financial success.

I was a researcher in the Movies section of Newsweek back then. My recollection is that we were the first to popularize the word. Or maybe it was the folks over in Time's movie department. Or could it have been those trendy writers over at Women's Wear Daily...

Well, that was then, Q is now.
