FNC reported that the government can't pay all the politicians their "matching funds" because so few people check off the box on their tax returns (last time I looked it was about 15%). A while back the politicians sought to get around this collective Bronx cheer by tripling the value of the checkoff.

The overwhelming public rejection is a reliable indication that people don't want the government using public money to finance campaigns - a conclusion that runs into the usual Media buzzsaw. FNC reported that the government will only be able to give the politicians a fraction of their matching funds, the rest to wait until after what April 15 brings.
