The Sony Boxes. Sony also plans to be a major player in the digital TV market--which includes digital cable. In a partnership announced in September with Cablevision, Sony will make it possible for New Yorkers to view digitized cable on their high-definition televisions. The box will provide digital cable to viewers and will offer interactive gaming, e-mail and other services that Cablevision hasn't yet detailed. "The next wave for electronics manufacturers is clearly partnership," says Aoki, who notes that no electronics company has expertise in all three areas of networking, software and broadcast.
