Among those reportedly joining the millennial countdown was Microsoft chairman Bill Gates, ignoring worldwide concerns about the Y2K computer bug. The world's richest man was a guest on the yacht of Australia's richest, media baron Kerry Packer.

Those fireworks were exquisite. If they'll do even half of that for the Olympics, it would be worth the trip.

Don't know about the 'when' but rumour has it he spent New Years Eve in Sydney Harbour on Kerry Packer's boat
