I don't know about the current largest multinationals, but at the top of the Fortune 500, at least 8 of the top ten were normally oil or auto companies, back into the '60s anyway. IBM and GE were the traditional exceptions, usually in the bottom half of the top ten.

They used to say 1/6 or 1/7 of the GNP was automotive, I'd hope it was less now, but it's still a plenty big deal. Health care might be the only bigger sector, but that area doesn't lend itself to economies of scale very well, I guess.
