The real point about starting to do real commerce over the internet is that placing the order is only the tip of the iceberg. Everything that happens behind that tip is the same whether it is an internet company or traditional B&M.

Yes, there is a task handling zillions of site hits and another task handling a zillion secure transactions to take the order, but once those tasks are complete, all you have done is about 2% of the transactions that have to hit that company's computers in order to provision, fulfill, manage, collect on, etc. those orders.
