Here's an interesting article on the Q:

smartmoney.com

In particular:
But even if big operators do adopt CDMA, there's no guarantee that only Qualcomm will benefit. "Plenty of people can design (CDMA) chipsets," says Craig Mathias, an analyst with the Farpoint Group. Indeed, big phone makers like Nokia (NOK) and Motorola (MOT), with chip-making operations of their own, may resist dependence on Qualcomm.

Where do these guys get the idea that they are experts??

I want to add my thanks to Frank and everyone else who has contributed to the thread during "The Great 1999". I always keep my issues of Business Week, Fortune, WSJ, etc. from the year before to read the brilliant pundents analysis of the year to come. 1999, of course, was to be a cooling off period after the torrid 1998. Tech was in danger due to the possbility of declining year over year earnings growth, etc. etc., etc. If you have read the outlooks for 2000, it is much the same.

Personally, I think the Year 2000 is the most exciting year of the past twenty. Much of the world coming out of recession, technology in all its forms vaulting ahead. Productivity gains evident everywhere. Consumer confidence up to record levels. Unemployment rate is nothing. Inflation under control. Interest rates may rise, but this economy can handle it. Let's get started!

Happy new year to all.
