OT It's funny but I was seriously thinking of writing a book about all this for the last six months, and in the last month or so, I've been less inclined to do so. Even though I have heard one story after another that is completely amazing, many by PM, and the book would sell very well simply for the airmchair fantasy of it, even if all the readers did not believe they could do the same. But they could of course, so in its way it would be instructive. There is great human drama human interest and it's such a mythical American story, repeated again and again, people changing their lives, but writ large through the net and what this community can provide.

But after all that...I decided most people would prefer their privacy, though a few would like to crow...and I would prefer my privacy too. I enjoy this so much I don't think I want to tinker with it at all. I just want to be part of it. I feel as if writing about it would somehow alter my relation to it forever in a way I wouldn't like. Kindof like Michael Apted's famous "7 up" series--where people's lives were exposed. Because all these stories are not only about $, they're about community, and about people gaining freedom. And I really wouldn't want to go on t.v. or radio to talk about what myself or my friends had made, "and you can too." That would "cheapen" it.

Happy Y2K--thanx to everybody for SI & this thread--and hoping for another great year
